Rajeev Kalra, Partner and Head of India, is a member of the Asia Private Equity, Credit & Infrastructure investment team, overseeing investments in India. He works from TRG offices in India.
Mr. Kalra leads TRG India’s team, focusing on sourcing, evaluating, executing and monitoring investments. Mr. Kalra has broad experience across consumer, industrial, healthcare, financial, infrastructure and services sectors. Currently he is a nominee director on the Board of several portfolio companies in India, including Leap Green Energy (a leading renewable power generating business), Nandi Economic Corridor Enterprises (an integrated toll road and real estate development business), DB Power (a thermal power generating business) and Soma Tollways (a toll road company). Mr Kalra earlier served as a nominee director on the boards of several other portfolio companies which have been successfully exited by TRG and / or are preparing for an IPO.
Prior to joining TRG in December 2013, Mr. Kalra was a member of the Citi Venture Capital International (CVCI) investment team from 2010. Mr. Kalra has been active in private equity in India since 1996, prior to which he was employed with SBI Capital Markets’ investment banking and corporate finance divisions. Mr Kalra started his private equity career in 1996 with HSBC Private Equity (subsequently, Headland Capital Partners) and led their India team from 2002 to 2007. This included experience with multiple funds, starting with a small India fund and subsequently investing from a technology/services focused regional fund and a mid-market regional private equity fund. Thereafter, Mr. Kalra worked with AIF Capital, an Asian private equity fund manager, as a Managing Director up to 2010 and was a key member of their India team and worked on mid-market growth capital transactions across sectors.
Mr. Kalra earned several academic awards while qualifying as a CA, CFA and as a graduate from Shri Ram College of Commerce. Mr. Kalra is fluent in English and Hindi and has a working knowledge of Punjabi.
